Abstract

The author comments on Jennifer Hochschild's commentary on his article which analyzes the impact of collective joblessness across racial and ethnic groups. Topics covered include the interracial disparities in income and neighbourhoods, where race remains a dominant factor in the U.S., the role of race during a sharp decline in the relative demand for unskilled labour, and the elements of class bias against poor workers.
